Magical Realism

My style is a form of magical realism—It’s the way I celebrate and share my appreciation for the people, creatures, and places that cross my path.

Trained Painter but I Love Drawing Too

I was trained as a painter but I also find deep satisfaction in the drawing process.  When I run creativity workshops, I also use a range of different media and techniques such as found objects, doll-making, altered books, and creative journaling.  (Click here to learn more about my background and influences).

Process-Oriented Art

Much of the art-making I have done over the last 30 years has been more process-oriented, fitting with my career as an art therapist.  Projects like the mandala journal, the box top vignettes, and the ornaments grew out of years of working alongside patients, clients, and workshops participants.  Those will be chronicled in the portfolio section (under constructive to be published in late 2022).

Art for a Larger Audience

It is only recently that I’ve begun creating works that are meant for a larger audience to see and experience.  And although I am celebrating formally taking on the “Artist” mantle – I wear my artist and art therapist hats in tandem and probably always will.   I am as interested in other people’s creativity and the effect of the creative process on happiness and wellbeing as I am in my own identity as an artist.
